Servicing your caravan is vitally important and can pick up early signs of potentially dangerous problems. It is also essential to keep up your annual servicing to keep your warranty live. If you choose not to service your caravan, you will null and void your warranty.

When thinking about servicing your caravan, choose either a dealer of the product, a service centre for the manufacturer or an Approved Workshop.

What Is The Approved Workshop Scheme?

The basic concept of the Approved Caravan workshop scheme dates from the late 80’s, when it was first launched with the backing of the RAC. At it’s height it had around 140 members, but had no independent monitoring or routine inspection programme in place. It did, however, signal the start of the agreed annual service schedule, which replaced a previous uncoordinated and somewhat haphazard system.

From 1995, the scheme was much improved under the AA umbrella until they, unexpectedly, bowed out in 1998. Until then, only the NCC and The Caravan Club had been involved, but the new Scheme, to be administered and independently  inspected by Jones Vening Ltd, was to include The Camping & Caravanning Club for the first time.

The new Approved Workshop Scheme was re-launched in 1999 and hat matured into the well-respected and effective system it is today. The Approved Workshops has recently changed hands and is now dealt with by the NCC (National Caravan Council)
