Before you lay your caravan up for the Winter, you will need to carry out some work before you store your caravan. You may be surprised how much damage can be done to your caravan by not draining the water system or leaving perishable items inside. ►Firstly give your caravan a good clean inside and out to get rid of all the road grime and any dirt. It is not advisable to use a high-pressure hose as this can damage joints and seals. Do not use products that can damage your caravans interior and exterior. ►Drain the water system fully by opening all taps in the central position. Remove the shower head and leave the hose hanging. Remove the water filter, if applicable. Open the water heater dump vale/drain plug . Pump the flush water from the toilet into the waste tank or empty into a bucket. Empty the waste tank out and clean with fresh water or with a suitable cleaner. ►Disconnect the leisure battery and if possible, keep topped up over the winter. Do not let the battery fully discharge as this reduces the life span of the battery. ►Turn off your gas supply. ►Leave your flyscreens and blinds in the up position as leaving them down, in transit or for long periods of time, stretches the tensions springs and this requires them to be re-tensioned (This type of work is not always covered under warranty.) ►Ensure all windows and rooflights are fully closed for security reasons and to reduce damp. ►Ensure to clean the interior of the fridge fully and empty all contents. Also leave the fridge on the winter catch or fully open, including the freezer door, by putting a cloth or ice tray in the door. Always remember, a little preparation really does go a long way.
