After a long Winter, you will need some preparatory work before your caravan is ready for your first trip away. You may be surprised how quickly the exterior and interior bear the marks of an extended storage period. Detailed below are some examples of what needs to be done before that all exciting first trip of the season ►Give your caravan a good clean, especially if it has been stored near trees. It is not advisable to use a high-pressure hose in case you damage the joints or seals. A good cleaning agent can be purchased from your caravan accessory shop. ►Check the condition of your battery and recharge as necessary. It’s not good for the battery to be charged whilst on a concrete floor so whilst charging, place the battery on a worktop or something similar to raise it off the floor. ►It is worthwhile checking the 12N & 12S or 13 pin plugs as it is not uncommon for grit and damp to get inside the plugs during the winter. ►Ensure you check your tyre pressures on both the caravan and the towing vehicle. Remember to check the spare wheel, if you have one. ►The water filter should be replaced and the water sytem flushed and sterilised. ►If due, book the caravan in for a service prior to use, as this makes sure everything is in a safe working order before you leave. Make sure you book your service well in advance as most caravan workshops can be very busy at this time of year. And finally, enjoy your holidays, wherever they make take you.
